Running from the Law: Kansas City Weekend

Kansas City Weekend

I had a lovely weekend in Kansas City with my girlfriends from law school, Alice, Claire, Karen and Lindsey.  Since we got out of work early, Claire, Karen and I left the Lou around 4:30 and trekked across the state to meet up with Lindsey.  We had margaritas and Mexican food on Friday night at a little place on the Plaza (sorry, I forgot to take any pictures!).  Then we met up with Alice (who was straight off a flight from Baltimore and then made the 4+ hour drive) for a cocktail at Tomfooleries before hitting the hay.

Saturday morning we had breakfast and coffee at Latte Land and then went to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and walked around the grounds.  The Nelson is known for its neo-classical architecture and extensive collection of Asian art.
Outside on the museum's immense lawn, the Kansas City Sculpture Park contains the largest collection of monumental bronzes by Henry Moore in the United States. The park also includes works by Alexander Calder, Auguste Rodin, George Segal and Mark di Suvero, among others.
The park is also well known for "Shuttlecocks", a four-part outdoor sculpture of oversize badminton shuttlecocks by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen.
Alice LOVED the Shuttlecocks.
Everyone else seemed mildly less enthused and used the time to check their messages.
However, everyone loved the "Standing Figures" (clever title, huh?).
They reminded me of a headless army of giants.
The explanation is not helpful at all in figuring out what's going on here.
See how tall they are?!
We also hung out with these guys for a while.
We weren't the only ones enjoying the grounds on this beautiful day.
Alice snapped a picture of me, taking pictures.  I almost look legit.
As we were leaving, we met Bella, a Great Dane puppy.  Yes, she's still a puppy and that big!
After the museum, it was time for some pampering.
Claire and I hit the salon and thouroughly enjoyed our cuticle-intensive mani/pedi.

There were moments of zen.
And moments of sass (my favorite kind).
We all met back up at the Classic Cup for lunch.
The hummus was devine, the bloody marys were spicy and there was no shortage of goat cheese.
After lunch we hit a few shops.
First up was American Apparel, where Alice found the perfect outfit for the upcoming Bring Your Own Jock Jams Party.
This store was weird.  And kinda awesome.
And Alice totally rocked the bodysuit look.
Later that night, we went out for dinner.
We stopped by Harry's in Wesport and had a drink.

And then mosied on down to Potpie, which was unbelievably delicious and so cheap!

And then it was time to call it a night.  One last picture of the group before heading up to bed.
It was a great weekend!!  I already miss you guys.  Can't wait to do it again!!

  8. Great pics and fabulous blog, Sara! I am embarrassed about my super-red face in the evening pictures... I should have worn sunscreen during our daytime adventures! :)
