Running from the Law: Weekend Detour

Weekend Detour

Our weekend was supposed to be filled with birthday parties and parades, good friends and green beer.

Instead, we had snot, sleepless nights and our first trip to the ER.

Mac had a slight fever Friday night then woke up from his Saturday nap with a 103.7 temp.

We immediately took him to the hospital where we waited almost three hours to the see the doctor.

Dude, it is ridiculously hard to entertain a 10 month old for 3 hours during his usual dinner, bath, bedtime.

We made surgical glove balloons, played with all the medical equipment in the room, watched the most annoying Elmo movie in the world, and emptied out the diaper bag and my handbag at least 10 times.

Poor little guy was such a trooper.  He was sweet and cheerful and adorable as always.  He waved and clapped for everyone he saw.  The doctor said he was her favorite patient of the day and asked (not really jokingly) if she could just keep him forever.

Um...NO.

The verdict?

Ear infection. Treat with Amoxicillin, baby Tylenol and love.

By Sunday he was feeling much better.

Still snotty, but no sign of a fever.

We skipped the parade and missed out on the green beer, but getting to snuggle this guy made it all worth it.

He may be my little lucky charm, but I think I'm the lucky one here.

Hope you all had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day.

(Next year there will be way less Elmo and LOTS o' beer.)

  1. ugh L had a 103.6 temp a week ago and I was ready to rush out to the ER at 3am but the doc said to just give him Tylenol and use cold cloths on his head- shit is scary. Ear infection on our end too...booo

  2. oh poor baby mac! You should get some kind of trophy for entertaining him for that long! I struggled with Elyse for just 20 minutes waiting for her 15 month checkup!

so glad it was nothing more serious! I'm so thankful that we haven't had to venture to the ER yet with Elyse...however, our ped's office has office hours 365 days a year and we've definitely taken advantage of those Sat/Sun hours!

I'm sure that you enjoyed the extra cuddles!

  3. Three hours!!!!! Are you kidding me? That's crazy. Especially for a baby. So glad you all survived the ER and that he's feeling better!

  4. What a cutie! So glad he is feeling better. Three hours is the pits (upside is it usually means they aren't too concerned. It is when they run in that you have to worry!).

    Cute pics :-)

  13. Ugh, I am all too familiar with the ear infection. Nora has probably had at least 8 in the last year? Don't be too surprised if the amoxicillan doesn't ultimately work. We have to do an additional round of antibiotics like 60% of the time. It is such an annoying process and SO sad when their little ears hurt.

  15. Oh my goodness, poor baby!!
Does your pediatrician not have an on call doc? I hate that you had to wait THREE hours. :(

  16. We almost went to the ER too, but our Doctor suggested we do Motrin instead of Tylenol b/c it wasn't working. It did the trick, but after it wore off the fever came back. Lot's of extra cuddles for us this weekend too. Hate when our little ones are sick.

  22. Poor little guy, I'm glad everything is ok! Quite the temp though, and far too long of a wait for a baby.
