Oktoberfest

Last weekend, Mac and I went to an Oktoberfest celebration with my newlywed BFF, Kasey.  It was so nice spending the morning with her, chatting about family and friends and getting the full recap on all the wedding details.  But I'm not sure when Kasey agreed to go with us that she knew she'd be volunteering to push the stroller, chase the toddler, buy (and carry) all the crap, listen to him scream in the car the entire drive, stand around and watch him play on the golf carts and climb on the chairs forever and take all the photos.  Hanging out with us is hard WORK.  But of course, she didn't seem to mind a bit, which is just one of the thousands of reasons she's awesome.   Even more awesome is the fact that grabbed my camera (my big fancy DSLR that everyone's scared of) (without me even having to ask) and took some really great photos of me and Mac together.

You guys, I can't even tell how much that simple little act of taking some photos of me with my little man meant to me.  I feel like I'm always behind the camera taking photos of the action, while feeling very removed from it all.  I can either be "in the moment" or take photos of "the moment," but not both.  And I hate asking others to take over my camera, because I don't want them to feel obligated or pressured.  When I do, the person usually seems scared/intimidated by the camera, takes one photo (usually out of focus) and quickly hands it back to me.  But Kasey took over the camera like a pro and just snapped away, which gave me the opportunity to play with Mac and produced some really fabulous photos of the two of us that I wouldn't otherwise have.  No one ever does that for me!  I honestly cherish these photos.  They are just us being silly, but they mean the world to me.  So thank you again, Kasey.

  1. I looked at the photos before reading the intro (I'm such a photo junkie) and was thinking to myself how nice it was that someone took photos of the two of you. I totally get what you mean, I feel so left out of the photo memories. Dad always looks like the hero and I look like the forgotten parent except for the iphone selfie photos tossed into the mix here and there.

  2. Oh my goodness, your son is the cutest! Just found your blog through the breastfeeding diaries and am a new follower on bloglovin'. I've just started browsing your blog but I also love the nursery theme! Can't wait to read more! -Andrea www.handandtheheart.com

  4. You guys are adorable! C has those same "jeggings", as I call them. Our neighbor calls them his pajama jeans. I call them easy to change diapers and take naps in and go with everything. Ha!

  5. He is such a beautiful child! I agree with you about the DSLR - I find that I am seldom in photos now because I am the only one who semi knows how to use it. But then I had the great idea to buy a tripod and wireless remote!! :)

  6. These are great photos! So glad you have them. I'm forever putting mine on auto and handing it to people...I figure I'll at least get the moment captured that way!

  11. These are so great! I'm always behind the camera, too. There aren't many people who are willing to take my "big girl" camera out for a spin. And, selfies with that thing? Impossible.
P.S. Mac's blond hair and big brown eyes MELT.MY.HEART.

  15. Wow, she totally rocked it with the photos!! So nice she did it without even asking - I hate asking anyone to take pictures of C and I...but we hardly ever make it into any together.

  16. Such great pics, Sara. Super sweet and you can see how much love there is between you and Mac. I can totally relate to the feeling of being stuck behind the camera and feeling like you're missing out - that happens to me a lot too. I'm so happy you had this great, quality time with Mac - lots of memories made I'm sure!
