Sea Life - Kansas City

Two weekends ago, we had the pleasure of attending my baby brother's wedding in Kansas City. You may have seen some of the photos of Mimmy in her gorgeous dress that I posted on Instagram.  I just couldn't get over how sweet she looked! Anyway, the morning before the wedding, we took the kids to the Sea Life Aquarium at the Crown Center. We were so excited about the aquarium and had been talking it up for weeks with Mac that he woke up Saturday morning begging us to take him RIGHT NOW.  Of course it didn't open until 10 a.m., so we had about 7 hours to kill that morning until they finally let us in the door. By that time he'd had no less than 29 meltdowns (traveling is hard on him), was covered in Chiefs tattoos and basically wanted nothing to do with the aquarium after learning he couldn't pet all the stingrays and fish. Worst place ever!  Mim, on the other hand, was a delight all morning and kept us all entertained with her silly faces and pole dancing.  She absolutely LOVED the aquarium and hugged every tank at eye level (as you'll see below).  It was the sweetest thing.  And it just goes to show you how crazy different your children can be.  Here are a million photos - some taken by me and some courtesy of my mom, who joined us.  Thanks mom!  It's so nice to be in a few pictures with the kids!
Mac loved the stingrays (of course).  Ryan loved the eels.  I loved the jellyfish.

And Mim loved every single thing she saw, including the sharks, the signs, the other kids, the walls, the floors and every stuffed animal in the gift shop.

What's your favorite at the aquarium?

  1. Oh man it is amazing how different kids can be. From each other, at each age, and depending on the hour! Mim hugging the tanks is just the cutest! I love that Mac loved petting the sting rays... Noah is a little more timid (with everything) and wouldn't touch them! He was fascinated by the shark show though (at a distance)!

  5. Beautiful photos!! The one of Mim and the eel!! And then the stingray! So awesome!! It looks like a wonderful time (for her, at least). We have a Sea Life near us that my oldest son loved - he did a behind the scenes tour that he still talks about today!

  6. Mim hugging the tanks is the best! Liam's favorite thing at our aquarium is the sting rays too; however, he does get to pet them.

  8. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! We will have to check this aquarium out the next time we're in K.C. Jake has family there so we visit at least once or twice a year. :-)

  9. The aquarium is on our KC bucket list! We never seem to make it there when we are home, but it looks like we must! (Did you hit up Lego Land since they're so close??)

Mac sounds so much like Marcus! And Mim, oh sweet little lady. Can we also talk about those little curls? Dying.

  11. We have yet to take P to an aquarium but have the Monterey Bay Aquarium on our list as her first one to visit. Is this in KC, Missouri? I used to travel their a lot when David played baseball for Avila University!

  12. Wow!! That place looks amazing! Cam's favorite place at the zoo is the aquarium (and the giraffes), but we spent so much time looking at all the fish. Love all the pictures, especially how much fun it looked like you guys had!

  13. What sweet pictures...and I love Mim's little leggings. I love aquariums. There's something about being surrounded by water that makes it peaceful. We have a pretty nice one here and I love the sharks and the penguins. My kiddos also prefer the gift shop and the play room.

  15. That place looks awesome!!! I love the one of Mac laying in the little port hole looking at the fish. And Mim... looks like she had an amazing time! She's totally mesmerized!
Also, side note, what kind of bad did you bring? I got a new purse that I thought would work cross body but it totally hurts my shoulder and I'd love something better!

  16. Cute photos! Sea horses and sea dragons are my fave. And it's so true that kids are born with their own personality. I can already tell differences between Ez and Declan even though Declan is only three months.

  19. These pictures are so fun! And impressive. The lighting inside an aquarium is almost impossible to get right(at least for me!)

  23. Ok confession: I have a fear of aquariums. They creep me out and I can't handle it. Even the fish section of a pet store makes me uneasy. But I can handle virtually visiting one through a blog post! You got some amazing pictures! And I'm so glad Mim loved the walls too hahahaha

It's too bad that Mac was being difficult & didn't enjoy as much as Mim.

  27. I would like to virtually high five you on the "traveling is hard on him" line. I'm currently hiding from my own child while at my brother's house. Have just carried my child kicking and screaming home from a playground. After we visited a toy store for him, where he got not one, not two, but three new toys thanks to his uncle and Grammy. Ungrateful little thing!!! I am blaming it on the travel and not the close proximity to age 3. It has to be the travel bc I can't deal with that attitude on the regular!

  28. We love the aquarium!!! It's such a good size and never crazy busy. Arden's favorite were those creepy human sized crabs...ugh, what the hell are those things? Anyway, glad you guys had a great time! And Mim...I love that she loves everything :) :)
