This looks SO fun! I have heard of this too, but have never tried it. I think we are def. going to check this out soon!!!! It is neat to see what people put in the containers.
I can't even tell you how excited I am that you posted this. We started geocaching when Linnea was just a baby - on my maternity leave actually. It is, without a doubt, our favorite family hobby. You did a fantastic job explaining it - which can be hard to do! Isn't it crazy how many caches there are out there? People will ask me "I live in (insert suburb of Minneapolis here). Are there caches by me?" I love watching their mind get blown when I tell them there are literally thousands by them! Like Mac, Linnea is super good at finding them, and I know Britta will be too when she gets bigger. Thank you for the awesome, well done post on our favorite hobby!
We have friends that do this with their kids, but you just sold me on trying it with Noah! He's obsessed with watching the GPS on my phone when we drive places, so I think he'd love doing this!
I am embarrassed to say that I have never even heard about this! But with how much we hike and are just outdoors in general, I'm pumped to try it. Liam will love it!
This sounds awesome! I thought geocache was really involved with coordinates and what not, but you make it sound so easy. We're going to give it a try!
Sara, this is the coolest thing ever! I am so excited about this and want to do it so bad with Cam and Emmy. Thank you so much for sharing this. I will definitely be looking into this ASAP. What a fun way to get outdoors and explore.
This is SO cool!! When I worked for Park and Rec in Kansas we hosted a class on geocaching. After the class was completed the participants were then sent out to find some. I thought it was the coolest! I'd never thought to do this with Marcus. I bet he'd love it!!
This is such an awesome post!!! So detailed and helpful for people who haven't geocached before! (which would be me). I'm going to have to see what's around us!

Seriously so much fun! Thank you for this informative post!!! I really want to try to do this with the kids now! I think Lily's excitement level would be over-the-top. Going to start investigating now!
I had a general idea of what geocaching was but this was a great post that really taught me more about it! I definitely want to try it now that spring is here and it's nicer outside. I wonder how many there are around my house!! Evelina @ Fortunate House
Ok, so I have been reading about geocaching for almost two hours now! I am so intrigued and I plan to go tomorrow to find my first one!! Evelina @ Fortunate House
I've always wondering what this is. The resort we stayed at this summer had it as one of the activities, and I totally wanted to try it out.... except I was pretty sure that it would be me and my husband with a million Mac and Mims and that would just be awkward. LOL ;)
This sounds AWESOME!! I might have to do this on Friday with my kiddos when we are all off work/school. I was looking for a fun morning activity and this might just be it. Thank you for all the details in this!! Looks like you guys had a complete blast!
such a great guide! I'm definitely looking into this. I never knew what app would be best for geocaching. Kyle did it before me, but he never told me the app he used or how he did it really. Mim's face is soo cute!
We learned about Geocaching last May while camping in the hill country with a big group of people! They had been doing it for a while and then introduced us to it. We were in a pretty small town at the time so there weren’t many to find. But, there are tons around where we live. It’s so much fun and Mason really gets into it. I love that you guys make this a family event and how excited Mac gets! You got some really great pictures, too! PS – great tips on Geocaching!!
THANK YOU for this post!!! I have always thought that it was so complicated and required "stuff." (I've just been too lazy to research, but you've done it for me!) I am totally doing this with Cam!!! You're the best!
Oh, I learned about geocaching from watching, Switched at Birth! Don't judge.... Anyways, I never thought to try and see if anyone locally does it. So fun!
Justin and the boys love to geocache! Justin's even been known to geocache on his own when we're on a grown up trip, and bring the trinket home as his travel gift to the boys. LOL----I know he thinks it's as fun as they do!
nice :) we just recently hear about geocathing and we try it yesterday and found 3 already :) its indeed exciting and fun to explore and find where is it. I'll also recommend it. enjoy hunting!
